Welcome to Kindergarten
Every year Ridgeview hosts a Welcome to Kindergarten event for our incoming students. With the high enrolment numbers, we run two separate sessions. Parents and students are welcomed by the Kindergarten teachers, Principal and other staff members. A short presentation by the Principal follows.
The children are divided into four groups, and participate in a variety of centres:
- Play dough
- Cutting and Pasting (crowns)
- Letters and Numbers (magnetic letters and numbers)
- Drawing and Writing (drawing and printing
After a brief time at each centre, the children all meet in the Library for a story while the parents meet again in the gymnasium for a second talk with the Principal.
Parents then pick up their child, and each child receives a “goodie bag” of storybooks and school supplies to practise the skills introduced today. We hope that the children have an opportunity to read their new books and use their new supplies so that they are ready for Kindergarten.
